About Kevin

Kevin has been an animal lover all his life. His first horse ride was at age 3
months and it’s been hard to keep him off horses ever since. Kevin graduated
from Tarleton State
University with an animal science major.
He has run the family ranch since 1992
and started collecting his breeding stock
of Foundation Bred Quarter Horses.
In 1995 he had put together a string of
mares and began his breeding of high
quality stock with his 100% Foundation
Stallion, Joe Don Hancock. Today,
Joe Don Hancock (Segundo, as he calls him) is the father and grandfather of
many of Kevin’s brood mares. Kevin has crossed Segundo’s fillies with Poco
Bueno and Jessies James bloodlines producing excellent, athletic working cow
horses with temperaments that even the inexperienced rider can appreciate.

Kevin trains and shows his own horses in the Versatility Ranch Horse
competition. As a 3 year old, Segundo and Kevin placed 1st in Trails and 5th
overall at the very first Versatility class held at the Fort Worth Stock
Show, standing along side the biggest ranches in Texas. He now uses Segundo’s
offspring for showing as well as in roping competitions.

Kevin believes a good horse should
be able to put in a full day's work
at the ranch, then be the same
horse to go to roping or ranch horse
competitions. Kevin trains his horses to
                      be thoroughly adaptable to whatever
the rider chooses to do. Kevin is one of
the top trainers of team roping horses
today. Many of his horses go to homes
that return for another horse just like the one he sold before. Due to the
consistency in the animals he produces, it is easy for him to fill that order.

Kevin has been a member of the Keller Horseowners Association for several
years. He provides clinics for the club on the first Saturday of each month.
He also gives group lessons and individual lessons upon request on Wednesday
nights at the Keller Arena. He is continually trying new ideas to help out the
club members as well as other horse lovers. Kevin provides individual riding
lessons from beginner level to advanced competitors. Kevin is eager to have
others learn from basics to competition level how to fulfill their dreams of
competing in these shows for fun. He feels the better you are at bonding with
your horse, the better horse person you will be.

Kevin was contacted by the Wise
County Horse Rescue to assist in
kicking off their grand opening in
August. He provided a demonstration
on horse training techniques. He
showed how a horse can be trained
in a safe way without any abuse from
the trainer. He is helping the owners
by trimming and shoeing the horses
at the adoption center as well.

Kevin has judged several Versatility Ranch Horse competitions for various
organizations and 4-H functions. He joined the National Team Roping Horse
Association and has his judges license for the NTRHA shows.

The ranch supports over 120 horses, including about 50 brood mares. Kevin
has horses for sale at all times in various stages of training. He tries to
personally start every horse that leaves the ranch.
