My husband and I had met Kevin initially after signing up to take some Ranch Versatility classes. First
impression, cowboy deluxe with the long sleeved shirt buttoned all the way up, handlebar moustache, ten
gallon hat and the Texas accent to boot. We told him about our search to find the “perfect horse” for my
husband. A “perfect horse” would stand tied, move out easy when asked, trailer, be honest and have a
heart of gold. A tough bill to fill is what I was thinking. Kevin invited us out to his 1000 plus acre ranch to
search for our “perfect horse”. After looking over at least 100 or more horses and having much difficulty
narrowing it down to about a handful, I noticed this lone horse standing in a trailer with a saddle on him.
Upon questioning Kevin about this horse, he revealed that “Hornet” was being started because he knew
the horse was going to make someone a real nice horse. Kevin led him out of the trailer and the most
gorgeous sorrel horse with a flaxen mane walked quietly out of the trailer. The horse was muscled up
and built like a rock. Kevin showed us his dam “Flashy Lady Hornet” and his sire “Joe Don Hancock a.k.
a. Segundo” and they were tremendous animals. Hornet found himself a “forever home” that day with our
family and almost two years later we are still amazed at the quality of horse that we got at such a
reasonable price.
Since our first horse purchase with Kevin, we have sent two other horses of our own for him to start. My
two year old mare came home after only 120 days of training broke enough for my eight year old grandson
to ride. I am amazed at how she can work a cow, tolerates a rope like she has seen one all her life, stops
on a dime and stands still when grooming or saddling. We currently have another horse in training with
him and are looking forward to putting another quality horse into our herd.
Lastly, the question all want answered is, “Would I purchase another horse from Kevin Gursky?” and the
answer is “YES” and hopefully I can soon!
